Not to be missed...
A Lucca specialty called cecina. Sort of a flat bread made out of chickpea flour (garbanzo beans) and sold Lucca - Pizza Shopby the slice at pizza shops. Eat it hot and with fresh ground pepper sprinkled on top. Yum!

It's on to Lucca today. A very cool walled city with walls (compacted earth faced with brick) 100 feet thick! Supposedly the main reason that the city walls are intact is because Napoleon "gave" the city to his sister, who had the top of the wall turned into a park. Most of us bicycled around the top of the wall which was a great way to "oversee" the city. Great weather again as you can see by the blue sky in the photos...

Other highlights included climbing Guinigi Tower where you find several oak trees growing on top. The tower was built around 1384, but I wonder how old the trees are?

Another unique sight is the ancient Roman amphitheater where over the years the arches have been bricked in and turned into apartments and shops on the outside and Piazza Anfiteatro on the inside.
